The British looking-glass
Publisher: Whittles Publishing
Format: Paperback, 0 pages
Description:
The author of this book was born in Sutherland in 1800 and during his life he and his family were evicted twice. He subsequently began the task of collecting information for this book which was published in 1870. Dedicated to the Prince of Wales in order that he would be made aware of the tyranny being perpetrated by landlords in the Highlands against their tenants, the book made landlords so afraid that it was planned for all copies to be purchased from the printers and booksellers and burnt. Any tenants in possession of the book had to burn it or face immediate eviction - searches were even made of individual houses. This book is a facsimile edition of this work.
