Description:

An installation project by Lars Lerup and Sohela Farokhi, room takes the typical notions of a room and stretches them towards new possibilities. Walls do not confine the room, but instead images of the city, the landscape, of industry and technology-is defined by frontiers of the imagination. The space within is rendered mobile and fluid, an "urban interior" further enhanced by "household vehicles" that replace static furniture. The installation at the Menil Collection in Houston instigated a conscious dialogue between society and technology and how the two are becoming securely intertwined within our sense of reality and imagination. Lerup, trained as an architect and engineer, is a professor and dean of the School of Architecture at Rice University, and Farokhi, an artist and painter, is the current resident artist. A unique publication that visually bridges the architectural and design world to the conceptual art world.
