Children With Special Needs

This is an Essential Medical Information Systems publication. the idea is to be able to access the information you need quickly. Sections are divided into Types of need: Physical has sections including: Allergies, cleft palate, epilepsy, hearing impaired/deaf, hyperactivity/distract-ability, left-right hemisphere of the brain, physical handicaps, school readiness, visually impaired/blind, Tourette syndrome, asthma, developmental vision problems, and central auditory processing problems. Mental and Emotional Problems: Emotionally disturbed, learning styles, reading disabilities/dyslexia, school phobia, and stress. Social Problems: Physical abuse and neglect, alcoholism in families, blended families, and single parent families. Cultural Differences: English as a second language, non-standard English, and poverty. Communication Disorders: Language disorders, speech disorders, and stuttering. Measurement of Intelligence: Intelligence testing, gifted and talented, learning disabilities, and mental retardation. Minorities: Blacks, Hispanics, Indo-Chinese, and Native Americans. While some of these 'generalizations' appear very negative, they seem to be just a way to 'quick reference' the 'best' way to help a child from any background to more easily acclimate to 'your' classroom, and indirectly, you to them.
