Jean Laude was born in 1922 in Dunkirk in the north of France. This landscape of cold seas and desolate beaches greatly influenced the poetry he was to write. Widespread attention as first drawn to his poems by their inclusion in the now famous anthology edited by Jean Paris which introduced the new generation of postwar poets. Les plages de Thule was first published in 1964 by Editions du Seuil. This is the first English edition and includes twelve poems. Volume III of the KOSMOS Modern Poets in Translation Series.
