The complexity of housing legislation and the huge increase in reported cases in recent years, including in the appeal courts, mean that advice workers, solicitors and barristers need to find relevant cases quickly and easily. Based on the journal "Legal Action"'s quarterly series, "Recent Developments in Housing Law", this book includes not only all significant cases reported in "Legal Action" since 1985, but many of the more important cases decided before then. For ease of reference the summaries of cases have been organized accordingly to subject matter and the courts where they were decided. The main subject areas are evasion of statutory protection, public-sector security of tenure (Housing Act 1985), private-sector security of tenure (Rent Act 1977), private-sector security of tenure (Housing Act 1988), harassment and unlawful eviction, disrepair, homelessness, mortgage-possession proceedings, and long lessees (including service charges).
