Guyana: Politics and Development in an Emergent Socialist State

This book is the culmination of research conducted in Guyana during the period 1981-1985. It takes no particular political nor ideological perpsective and is an attempt to describe, analyze, and interpret Guyana's political and economic history drawing from a variety of theoretical percpectives and the personal and inside knowldege of the author on the political and economic developments of Guyana. This book traces political development and the ethnic political culture; provides salient information on political institutions, political forces, and political parties; describes the economic structure and development policies pursued; and then critically examines the impact of all these elements on the resulting process of political change and socio-economic development.
