Modern Numerology

Modern Numerology deals with today's concept of the vibratory power of numbers and brings the ancient study up to date. It is based upon observation, experience, and conclusions drawn consistently from the same set of circumstances. It is a branch of knowledge older than astrology. Its early concepts led to the beginnings of structured mathematics, a prime prerequisite for the study of the measurement and motion of the stars. How important are numbers, really? In this computer age, you are a number. You have a social security number, a bank account number, a credit card number. Numbers are used in commerce, science, prescriptions, recipes, on telephones, trains, buses, flights. A world without numbers would be a world without form, organization, communication or progress. A questionable advantage to the absence of numbers in our time might be atomic science. This science is a reality due to mathematical formula worked out in the minds of Niels Bohr and Albert Einstein. In Numerology, all numbers above 9 are reduced to a single digit, some single digit from 1 to 9. This begins with the next higher number, 10, which, by adding its component parts, 1 + 0 = 1. Gurdjieff referred to numerology as theosophical addition, that is, "the definition of numbers consisting of two or more digits by the sum of those digits." To people who do not understand the symbolism of numbers, this method of synthesizing numbers seems to be absolutely arbitrary and to lead nowhere. But for a person who understands the unity of everything existing and who has the key to this unity the method of theosophical addition has a profound meaning, for it resolves all diversity into fundamental laws which govern it.
