Seven Days for Ruby

When John Phips, a vagabond, stops at the home of Ruby Alder, an elderly widow, and offers to do some work in exchange for a meal, Ruby agrees. But there is something familiar about John - in fact, she once knew a man named John Phips. But is this the same man? And if it is, can she trust him? How much has he changed in fifty years? As Ruby tries to sort out these questions, and as John continues to work for her, she begins falling in love with him. Ruby's son, Will, believes that John Phips will be nothing but trouble.
