South Carolina Genealogies

"Credit for the large number of carefully compiled genealogies which have appeared in the South Carolina Historical Magazine should go primarily to the first two editors, Mr. Alexander S. Salley, Jr., and Miss Mabel Louise Webber. All of the genealogies were indexed within each separate volume of the Magazine. Subsequently, three volumes of cumulative index were prepared to provide easier access to material in the first eighty volumes of the Magazine. Since most of the quarterly issues are now out of print, all genealogies that have been published by the Society are now being reissued by the Reprint Company. Dr. Margaret H. Cannon has prepared an entirely new index which identifies each of the approximately thirty thousand individuals more specifically than in any previous index and which will make using this information easier than ever before. Our files contain unpublished research on approximately three thousand individuals and families.
