Click: A Novel
Description:
Mick had problems. Nobody in town seemed to realize his doorbell worked. He was an artist, but had to take crime-scene pictures for the police to pay his bills. And most importantly, David Robertson was dead, and Mick needed to know why. He had known David Robertson. Then again, everybody in Pushroot knew everybody else. Which meant that Mick probably knew Robbie's murderer as well.
What's more, Police Lieutenant Mapes Oldman knew Mick, and didn't like him. The feeling was mutual, though Oldman was sure that by now Mick had forgotten why. And Nadia Bdzak of the Casper Star Tribune didn't think too highly of Mick either...but caught herself thinking about him when he wasn't around. He was a frustrating, irritating nuisance - but he kept bringing up the right questions about Oldman's investigations, kept digging up information on the story Nadia desperately wanted to break.
When the easy answers fail to explain the murder, Mick's stubborness and curiosity quickly entangled him in pursuit of the killer. As new corpses keep turning up and the Casper Bureau of Land Management office burns down, Mick, Nadia, and Oldman finds themselves begrudgingly working together not just to track down suspects or a story, but to survive. Twists in the trail lead them deep into the wilderness of the Wind River Mountains and back to the tangle of politics, corruption, love, and greed played out against the backdrop of Rocky Mountain majesty.
