Colorado's Landmark Hotels
Description:
Thirty historic hotels in Colorado currently hold the prestigious Landmark classification from one or more of the following: the National Register of Historic Places, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, ‘Landmark’ designation by Colorado Preservation, Inc., or designation as an historic property from city or county organizations.
Linda R. Wommack brings the stories of each of these hotels to Colorado travelers and history buffs. All but three of the hotels are at least one hundred years old, and all are all in operation today.
Each book comes with a music CD by award-winning singer/songwriter Jon Chandler.
“This book updates the hotel stories with a look at such modern conveniences as online booking and Wi-Fi access as well as ‘Fun Facts’ and includes encounters with hotel ghosts. A wonderful book.”
—Thomas J. Noel, Professor of History and Director of Public History, Preservation & Colorado Studies at the University of Colorado Denver
“Much more than simple histories, these hotel biographies capture the unique character of the hotels profiled, deftly describing for each the context of its place and times. So well researched and written is this compendium of the state’s venerable venues that checking out Colorado’s Landmark Hotels is the next best thing to checking in.”
—Debra Faulkner, Brown Palace Hotel historian
“As a Colorado native who has had a longstanding relationship with the historic Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, I noted Wommack’s command of its history. She describes the hotel’s regional and national significance with palpable affection. Those who know it well will nod their heads in appreciation, and those who don’t will want to visit. For those who count themselves as Coloradans, either geographically or in spirit, a new Linda Wommack book is a singular treat.”—Jon Chandler, award-winning novelist and singer-songwriter
