East African Expressions of Christianity (Eastern African Studies)

Christianity has been spread in Africa by Africans. These studies, by prominent Tanzanian and American historians, anthropologists, political scientists and church people, explore a complex set of historical issues regarding the translation of religious meanings across cultural boundaries; the historical values, beliefs and practices through which Africans interpreted and appropriated mission Christianity; the religious as well as social appeals of the new faith; and the vital roles played by African catechists, evangelists, teachers and translators in the spread of Christianity and development of an African church.
