Ford Mustang, 1965-70: Hoodtop, Convertible, Fastback, 6 & V8 (Osprey AutoHistory)
Description:
The famous Ford Mustang resulted from some clever market research done in the early 1960s. The Ford Motor Company discovered that the post Second War 'bulge' would soon be of first car buying age and there would be millions with money in their pockets. More cleverly Ford sought a young man (or woman)'s car, sporty looking but NOT a sports car, not too big and with four seats.
The result is a Mustang. A basic package with numerous options. One could start with the base 'Secretary Six' and climb on up through three bodyshells and eventually finish with the GT350 breathed on by no less a hero than Carrol Shelby, it providing real performance as well as a V8 rumble. Even today, the Mustang's popularity is phenomenal.
This book reviews the very beginnings of the cars, traces their detail development, discusses early competition success and concludes with numerous contemporary driving impressions. A careful study has been made of the competition, as well as original photos.
