This Williamsburg series, which explores the intertwined lives of several British and American families in the years from the Revolutionary War to World War Two. Yes, these are 'romantic' books, with an element of 'they lived happily ever after' for most (though not all) of the characters, but first, they endure various trials which always include tangles in the events of their time, and we become immersed in times we may not have known much about: what it was like to work in a Civil War hospital, for instance, or to serve as a correspondent in Cuba during the Spanish-American War.
