A Guide to Sources in Educational Media and Technology

The field of educational media and technology is a rapidly expanding one of growing interest to students and teachers. There is unprecedented growth in the use of media in teaching and learning and in collections for study or reading in the university and school library media center or learning resource center. This book has been written to aid the librarian in finding the materials that both he and the teaching staff, as well as the student, need. The terms educational technology, educational media, instructional technology, audiovisual instruction and instructional media all point to the role that new tools and teaching materials are playing in education today. Teachers need to understand the potential of newer educational media and to know the great advantages of media use in improving classroom instruction. Librarians need to know and to have available materials in many areas of media instruction. Students are interested in new means of communication and learning. This bibliography is not intended as a collection for a particular subject-matter file or for any one grade level. However, the author does have in mind a well-balanced and up-to-date collection for the university library in the field of educational media and technology. The hope of the author is that the publication will be a useful book, valuable to graduate students in the field of educational technology, to school librarians and administrators, to the university and college librarian, and to teachers in courses in educational technology.
