Description:

The 2007 Edition of the U.S. Master Wage-Hour Guide details all of the important revisions and additions to laws governing wages and hours, including the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, effective July 24, 2007. On May 25, 2007, President Bush signed the Act, which raises the federal rate in three steps: from $5.15 to $5.85 per hour on July 24, 2007, to $6.55 per hour on July 24, 2008, and to $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009. Among other changes, the 2007 Edition includes the U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the application of the companionship services exemption, which excludes from FLSA coverage employees who provide care for elderly or ill patients in their homes, to home-based caregivers who are employed by third-party agencies (Long Island Care at Home, Ltd v Coke, Docket No 06-593, June 11, 2007). Other significant legal developments that have occurred since the last edition, published in 2004, are included.

The Guide explains how these updated laws apply to employers and employees both in government and private industry. It also covers the Equal Pay Act (EPA), child labor restrictions, recordkeeping requirements, garnishment restrictions, and the protection afforded migrant and seasonal agricultural workers. Also covered is the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and white-collar overtime exemption regulations.

The Guide includes

A state-by-state rundown of minimum wage rates as of June 2007

Explanations of how new statutory and case law apply to particular employment situations

Statutory, regulatory and case citations throughout the text

Expert guidance and explanations of the FLSA, FMLA, EPA and more
