This book presents the latest information on America’s energy consumption and production, compared with years past. Controversial issues such as America’s dependence on foreign oil; the possibility of exhausting fossil fuel supplies; and the harm done to the environment by mining, drilling, and pollution are explored. The book consists of ten chapters and three appendixes. Each of the major elements of the U.S. energy system - such as coal, nuclear power, renewable energy sources, and electricity generation - has a chapter devoted to it.
