An attempt to provide a comprehensive introduction to the technique of oil painting. Basic equipment and materials are discussed and techniques such as glazing, scumbling and knife-painting are explained with step by step illustrations. Each section is completed by a project in which the reader can develop their own ideas. The author, Roy Rogers has contributed to "The Artist" and works as an artist in the British film industry. The "Art Class" series is aimed at the practical art marke t and builds up into a structured art course. The series combines equipment, technique and projects in a structured format which is illustrated in colour with step by step illustrations, works by the authors and other artists. The emphasis throughout is on learning through practice and each book contains projects to help readers develop new skills. The series provides a fully worked course in art, though each book is complete in itself and all are written by practising artists and teachers. It is aimed at the leisure artist, but all projects and techniques have been tested by amateur artists to ensure that they are explained correctly and comprehensively.
