The Deadly Streets
Description:
In New York in the 1950s, kid gangs of Juvies - juvenile delinquents - ran riot. They were impoverished, disillusioned and disenfranchised children desperately looking for a way to escape their everyday hell. They waged a fierce war on each other, but generally left civilians alone. These sixteen stories capture the mood of that time, evoking the danger and the violence that surrounded these kid gangs. They are works of fiction, but were all inspired by ten weeks spent by the author in the 1950s as part of The Barons, one of the most dangerous kid gangs in New York City.
