Lying

It has been estimated that each of us tells up to 180 lies a day. This is a novel about lying and deception and the price we pay for it. Alison falls in love with an older man, James, a well-to-do accountant from an ultra-Catholic family. She is from an ordinary background and rarely sets foot in a church. She wins his love and marries, but five years later she finds herself compelled to live a double life, upholding truths in public she privately abhors. The strain of this deception coupled with a deep sadness at their failure to conceive a child leads her into an affair. Lie piles upon lie as she begins to see falsehood everywhere. When she discovers that even James is entangled in deception, her world begins to crumble.
