Stanier Locomotives: A Pictorial History
Description:
When W. A. Stanier became Chief Mechanical Engineer for the London Midland and Scottish Railway in1932, he was faced with the need to improve the then existing locomotive stock. He set about this with such purpose that only 17 months later the first Pacific locomotive, "The Princess Royal," was completed at Crewe and by the end of 1935 over 300 new engines had been constructed and by the end of 1939, no less than 1224 engines, including his first batch of "Coronation Pacifics." This pictorial history covers each class in chronological order, allowing the reader to follow the development of the engine and later modifications by Fairburn and Ivatt, all illustrated with crisp black and white photos. 128 pages.
