'Jeanne Whitmee has an unerring gift for portraying the emotional undertow of family life' - PIATKUS Fleur Sylvester, of mixed race, is abandoned by her middle-class mother and would-be rock star father and brought up by her loving grandparents. But on their death her life changes completely. Aged only nineteen, Fleur is left with nothing but the scrap of paper bearing her mother's last address, surely many years out of date. With no real hope of finding her mother, she decides that the small town of Elvemere is as good a place as any to start afresh.
