He would even be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his nonfiction account of Vietnam, which would in turn propel him to the top of journalism as a writer for the Washington Post. Fame and fortune followed, and with them came a change in Tobias Alexander King. The young man, once praised as being the next Steinbeck, soon discovers that the price of glory is often far too steep. He turns to alcohol. He alienates his loved ones. He slowly slides down that slippery slope of self-loathing and disgust. The drinking continues until he finds himself without a job and in the intensive care ward of a Washington D.C. hospital. With the help of his best friend, Pete, and the love of his life, Maria, he slowly recovers and begins to rebuild his life, only to have his personal house of cards come crashing down upon him on a tragic winter’s night. Can Toby come all the way back from disaster? Can he learn from past mistakes, forgive himself, and find a way to not only survive, but thrive? Resurrecting Tobias is a story of redemption, about overcoming the past, and learning to thrive despite the hardships. It is a combination of Thoreau and Siddhartha, a story, told in flashbacks, of one man who refuses to allow adversity to define who he is.
