Springfield-1940's To some it might seem like a quiet, easy going southwest Missouri town, but Private Investigator Max Black knows better. When a female is found dead in the river, Max and Pat, the Chief of Detectives at the City PD, team up to investigate. Then Max is hired by two men, who claim to be brothers, to find their missing sister. He suspects she could be the murder victim, but his suspicions run even deeper when he finds out the men aren't who they say they are. Max is pushed to his limit when his girlfriend Shelly's life is threatened by the two goons. Mayhem breaks out when he attempts to save her and one of the men loses his life. It becomes clear to Max, and Pat, that someone is trying to tie up loose ends so they won't be discovered.
