At the time of this broadcast Dr. Martin Luther King was co-pastor, with his father of Ebenexer Bapist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and president and one of the founders of the Sounthern Christian Leadership Conference. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and received more than 250 citations for his work in civil rights. He was selected by Time as "Man of the Year" in 1963. Born in Altanta, Georgia in 1929, he obtained degrees at Morehouse College and Crozer Theological Seminary after which he undertook further studies at the Universities of Pennsylvania and Harvard and obtained a Ph.D. degree in Systematic Theology from Boston University. He Lectured extensively, and was the author of many books. The Massey Lectures begun in 1961 by the CBC to enables distinguished authorities in fields of general interest and importance to present the results of original study or research. This Lecture has not been heard since 1967.
