Since the first edition of this book, there have been rapid and significant advances made in the instruments and systems of offshore surveying with automated data handling now generally the rule. In addition, the surveyor's area of work has changed. With the rapid development of oil field exploration, the surveyor is becoming increasingly concerned with pipelaying, production platform installation and seismic aspects.
