The Little Book of Gardening

This second edition of The Little Book of Gardening is a comprehensive basic book for gardeners at all levels, a handbook that will not disappoint. It has been completely reorganized into chapters and topics. In addition to very useful information on all phases of gardening, Rhoads has created a checklist for each month to keep up with your garden, provided 1990 and 2006 Hardiness Zone maps and lists of desirable plants for each zone, given up-to-date sources of gardening supplies, presented sample garden layouts, given tips for dealing with problems from animals to weeds, and included seven beautifully detailed drawings of flowers. Rhoads does not take all the credit for his book: "This book is a distillation of my lifelong experience and that of many friends who have read and commented on the manuscript including two professional horticulturists and others whose gardens I admire." This second edition was edited, designed, and published by Susan Else Wyman of Wyman House Publications with illustrations by her granddaughter, Jordan Else Pemberton, honors graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and freshman at MICA (Maryland Institute-College of Art).
