The Eight Cylinder duPont Motor Car 1928-1932
Description:
Stan Smith has expended much time and effort on his very detailed book on the eight cylinder du Pont. We are going to show you a few details of some of the cars and information he has included in the hard-covered book. The earlier cars made starting in 1921 were powered by both four and six-cylinder engines. In 1928 the firm chose an l-head Continental straight-engine which they used in the Dupont thru 1932. The chassis design was conventional for the time and at first was equipped with a three speed transmission, with a four speed was available soon after. The bodies for the early cars were provided by the well known firms of Merrimac and Waterhouse and were very exclusive looking designs. The car we have chosen to show here was the sportiest car in the line-up and was called the 2-Passenger Speedster. It was the first of eleven built in total and was shown at the New York Auto Show January 5-12, 1929. It was painted Bon Soir Grey, carried black leather upholsery, chrome plated wire-wheels, Balcrank bumpers and the attractive Woodlite brand of headlight pictured above. The photos were taken by John Adams Davis on Sutton Place in NYC for publicity purposes. The book includes 120 pages, with factory photos showing the 1928-1932 period duPont cars, along with in-depth descriptions of each body type offered. Includes an index of all 200 produced by serial number. Each limited edition book is numbered and signed.
