This is the story of a woman who is determined to break down the barriers between the disabled and able-bodied. Alison has athetoid cerebral palsy, a condition which keeps her body in constant motion and affects her co-ordination and speech. Her parents were told she would never walk or talk. Nobody ever believed that she would lead an independent life. But nobody had reckoned on Alison's fiery, fighting spirit. Her extermely positive and self-aware personality thrives on each fresh challenge that comes her way. She has succeeded in confounding the Jeremiahs, living her life to the full via a series of major landmarks and turning points: learning to drive, getting her own flat and landing her first job. Then, in 1987, she married Mark John, an ebullient Welsh curate.
