The Book of Ghostly Magic

Unless you haven't been practicing your tricks and your Magic University professors show up to give you a pop quiz, magic isn't supposed to be scary, right? Don't be so sure. According to the authors if it's done the right way, with the right atmosphere and the right tricks, magic can be mysterious, eerie, and very, very, spooky. Back in the late 1800s, performers were using some very simple magic tricks to make people believe that mysterious writing, strange sounds, and moving objects were actually the work of ghosts. What kind of stuff did these performers make happen? Sometimes a painting would fall off the wall. Writing would appear on a chalkboard or a piece of paper. A pencil would roll across a table, untouched by human hands. An object would float across the room, or maybe even a ghost, or apparition would appear. The performers would often turn the lights down low or play some creepy music in the background. This would not only set the mood, but it also made it easier for the performers to work their magic tricks and make believers out of their audiences. But were there really ghosts? Nope. Not a Casper in the bunch. Just a pile of great magic tricks like the ones you'll find in this book. Many of these tricks are based on classic techniques, like Raising Card, which is more than four hundred years old.
