Tribology in machine design

The main aim of this book is to promote a better appreciation of the role of tribology at the design stage in engineering. It is intended as a reference for designers, researchers and postgraduate students but should also be relevant to undergraduate courses. Tribology is a neglected area on engineering courses and it is hoped that the procedures and techniques of analysis explained here will be helpful in applying the principles of tribology to the design of the machine elements found in mechanical devices and systems. It is designed to supplement the Engineering Science Data Unit series in tribology, well known to practising engineers. The material is grouped according to applications - elements of contact mechanics, tribology of lower and higher kinematic pairs, rolling contact bearings and surface damage of machine elements.
