Pain and Kampo: The Use of Japanese Herbal Medicine in Management of Pain

Todays' generation of Western-trained physicians is becoming increasingly open to the experiences and traditions of Oriental medicine, particularly for the treatment of chronic diseases and syndromes that have not responded to conventional Western remedies. While traditional Japanese herbal medicine, known as kampo, has been used primarily in the management of chronic pain such as postherpetic neuralgia, headache, whiplash injury and rheumatoid arthritis, it also has numerous other applications which are currently undergoing rigorous scientific scrutiny. In addition to providing a detailed catalogue of kampo agents, this book aims to introduce the principles of kampo therapy to clinicians and researchers.
