The Welfare State in Korea: The Politics of Legitimation (St. Antony's)

In this slightly revised version of his Oxford thesis, Kwon (public administration, Sungkyunkwan U.) analyzes the political rationale and institutional structure of social policy in Korea during the period 1961-1987, and the outcome of the Korean welfare programs in terms of income equality, health care, pensions, and protection against poverty. His study of the making and implementation of social programs (including financing), and of the logic of legitimation explains the Korean state's position as regulator rather than provider of welfare services.
