The Romance of the Shoe: Being the History of Shoemaking in All Ages, and Especially in England and Scotland (Classic Reprint)
Description:
Excerpt from The Romance of the Shoe: Being the History of Shoemaking in All Ages, and Especially in England and ScotlandBorn in a Shoe town, and interested most of my life in. The personality of the shoemaker, it is not surprising that I should take pleasure in the history of the industry. What is really surprising is that no work of the kind has ever before been written. Tiny books on the subject have appeared; different phases of it have been dealt with in magazine articles; and Baudouin, Lacroix, Devlin, W. E. Winks and Mr. S. S. Campion have in various ways laid the industry under obligations; but this is the first attempt to offer a comprehensive view of the subject. Dealing with so vast a period as six thousand years or more, I have been obliged to write compendiously. On every page, however, I have endeavoured to bring into prominence the personality and the psychology of the shoemaker; and the more I have studied this good fellow the more, I have felt drawn to him.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
