Excerpt from Marketing Activities: December, 1945On the transportation side, the end of military operations last summer was not followed by the sudden easing of all our transportation difficulties that some people had expected. The railroads are stillhaving trouble handling all their traffic. This situation should continue to improve, however, and especially as more and more trucks become available again. But even in trucking, for a while the new equipment that becomes available will be used chiefly to replace worn out trucks that have. Been kept on the road past their time.The chief transportation bottleneck will be in refrigerated shipping. The number of refrigerator cars in service has declined during the war, falling from in 1941 to less than this year. The cars in use have seen very hard service in the last several years and many of them are in bad shape. The number out for heavy repairs increased by more than during 1944 and the first half of 1945.
