The Act of Teaching

This text covers the seven most commonly used teaching strategies: presentation, discussion, independent study, co-operative learning, discovery learning, direct instruction and individualized instruction. In addition, it provides coverage of such major topics as instructional planning, establishing set, maintaining time-on-task, monitoring, questioning, assuring clarity, providing feedback and reinforcement, classroom management, and assessment. A section at the end of the book provides students with opportunities to practice many of the basic teaching, reflection and problem solving skills discussed in the book. The reflective teaching process is built into the text through reflective questions in the margins and at the end of the chapters, and through reflection activities in the practice teaching manual at the end of the book.
