Soviet society under perestroika

An overview of the basic social structures and institutions of Soviet society. The book looks at the perspective of Soviet society as the context for Soviet politics. Selected readings from various Soviet documents are included at the end of each part of the book. The book concentrates on the changes which have taken place in the USSR under the leadership of Gorbachev. It attempts to give the reader an introduction to the problems confronting the reform leadership and the ways that they are being addressed. The narrative is informed by current thinking in sociology and political science. It is hoped that the book will appeal to teachers and students alike who are concerned with comparative politics, and political sociology as well as those studying Soviet politics and society
