Mariko Mori

Japanese multimedia artist Mariko Mori (b. 1967) combines popular culture, science fiction, and Far Eastern spirituality with an exploration of self-image in her internationally acclaimed work. Designed by Groovisions and art-directed by Simon Browning, this beautiful book presents a comprehensive overview of Mori's art and the inspiration behind it, including her highly successful interactive installations Oneness and Wave UFO. Covering all of the artist's work since she began her career in the 1990s, the book follows each project from inspiration and background visual references through a complete visual representation of the finished piece. Captions by Mori give readers a fuller understanding of her popular art. AUTHOR BIO: Mariko Mori was born in Tokyo and studied at the Chelsea College of Art, London. The record and results of one man's artistic and ecological adventure Artist and Williams College art professor Mike Glier has translated his preoccupation with man's connection to nature into a series of precisely plotted journeys. For Along a Long Line, he traveled to four disparate locations along the 70th longtitude to experience and paint the very diverse environments and landscapes offered along this narrowly defined slice of the earth. His itinerary included sub-Arctic Canada, the Ecuadorian rainforest, sub-tropical St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands-and New York City. While his colorful abstract landscapes are at the forefront here, also included are Glier's detailed blog entries and photographs. The result: a story of discovery and intense observation, recounted with enthusiasm and the technical mastery of plein air painting in the tradition of Audubon.
