Given the commitment to academic freedom, a work environment where one can speak freely should be a proverbial no-brainer. But applying lofty concepts and goals to day-to-day experience is not always easy. When vain and ego-oriented men and women must oversee a large group of equally vain and ego-oriented men and women, even the basics of 'disagreeing without being disagreeable' can be challenging. Such was the case on the University of Montevallo campus from 1985 to 1988. This book is a case study and a 'how-to' for faculty and a 'how-not-to' for college presidents and trustees.
